HASK Calahari Melon Oil Collection review

So, last month I had my hair done at Hairem salon at Locke St. South by Vera. I asked for a cut and colour, and being the amazing stylist Vera is, she gave me exactly what I was looking for. I was quite busy in the Spring and early Summer, so I couldn’t get my hair done earlier, but I decided it was time to go slightly lighter with my hair colour for the Summer. Instead of having my whole head done, I decided I only want some babylights like I usually do. Vera does an amazing job in giving me these caramel highlights all over my head! We’ve been doing babylights since I’ve been going to her back in 2011! The reason why I asked for babylights most of the time is because I’m very low maintainance when it comes to my hair. I don’t want to be going back to the salon every 8-12 weeks to get my roots done because, honestly, I’m just lazy.

Anyways, so before I did my hair, I received a sample of HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Collection. Funny how life works sometimes. It seemed, at the time, it was a sign for me to get my hair done. After I did my hair, I decided to use the collection for a whole month before writing this review.

What is HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Collection all about?

The line features a Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep Conditioner and Shine Oil all formulated with Color Shield Complex, which helps protect color-treated hair from damage and fading caused by every day washing and heat styling.
Found in the African desert, the kalahari melon thrives by retaining moisture in the driest conditions. This powerhouse ingredient counteracts moisture loss and fading, leaving color-treated hair healthy and vibrant. Don’t damage your hair or your wallet with endless trips to the salon, add HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection collection to your routine for unbeatable color retention!

HASK Calahari Melon Oil before after

So, I’ve used all the samples given to me – Shampoo, Conditioner, Mask and Oil. My favourite products from the collection are definitely the Shampoo and Conditioner. They smell so amazing! The shampoo and conditioner are gentle enough to be used daily. Usually I wash my hair every other day, occasionally I wash them daily. The shampoo and conditioner are very moisturizing without weighing my hair down! To be honest, even though it’s not as volumizing as the L’oreal shampoo, but obviously that’s because this collection is for colour protection, my hair on Day 30 still looks pretty good right? Oh, Day 1 picture is styled using a hair straightener, while on Day 30 I didn’t style my hair, it was just washed and dried using a hair dryer.

As mentioned, I’ve also used the mask and oil that come with the collection. The hair mask makes my hair feel super silky smooth! I just feel like my mouth waters every time I used the hair mask. It smells heavenly! The hair oil makes my hair looks so shiny! I feel like my hair looks every shinier than usual after I started using the oil.

A word of caution though, don’t overload your hair with the mask and/or the oil. I find that if I used too much mask or the oil, my hair becomes very limp and flat. The direction for the oil is to use a coin sized amount, but they don’t specify what coin they use. Anyways, I recommend, if you have fine limp hair like mine, to use a pea sized amount instead. For the mask, don’t be too generous with it, I recommend using a small golf sized amount. My fine straight limp hair falls very flat and straight if I used too much hair mask and/or oil. I can’t even style them to make it more voluminous because the hair becomes very slippery and doesn’t hold the style well.

However, if you have extremely curly hair, I have used the oil on a model with beautiful big curly hair. I applied the oil on her damped hair and braided it for the first part of the shoot, and once we took the braids off for the second part of the shoot her hair looks absolutely gorgeous! I’ll update this post and share pictures of her hair once the editorial is out (supposedly end of month!).

HASK Calahari Melon Oil Collection review

The colour looks slightly lighter right now, but keep in mind that I’m outdoor pretty often usually to go out for a run (every other day) and also for outdoor editorial shoots (almost every weekend!). However, my hair doesn’t feel dried out, no split ends, and does not look dull! It definitely looks pretty healthy and I think I’m going to keep using the collection until it’s all done. I’d probably buy the HASK Kalahari Melon Oil collection in the future whenever I colour my hair again, or may be I’ll try their other lines.
