Scandinavian Biolabs Hair Growth Routine 30-day Review

Who here has issues with their scalp and hair? I definitely do, especially in the last few years. So, when Scandinavian Biolabs asked me to give their products a try, I was excited to give it a try even though I did hesitate for a bit.

I’m very wary of hair products and their misleading & empty promises, but after researching and talking to their rep for more information, I decided to accept their kind offer & provide my own Scandinavian Biolabs Hair Growth Routine 30-day review in return.

Before we go any further, please note that this review is based on my own experience and that you should not use this review as medical diagnoses/advise. Seek professional advice and do a patch test before trying out any new products.

My Hair Background

When I received the products, I received a set of shampoo, condition and hair growth serum. I started using this set on October 1, 2020 and ending it in October 31, 2020. Just a little bit of background on my hair & scalp condition:

  1. Thin, fine hair.
  2. Sensitive oily scalps, prone to acne (yes you read that right).
  3. Lots of hair fall daily.

In the past, I have tried no-poo shampoo routine, not washing my hair regularly (washing every 2-3 days), using dry shampoo etc. Nothing works. My hair & scalp type simply does not work with that whole “do not wash your hair regularly”. It simply doesn’t. When I don’t wash my hair daily, I get scalp build up which in turn became dandruff. I find that I see more hair loss when I don’t wash my hair regularly than when I do.

My Daily Routine

My daily routine includes a minimum of 1-hour workout and 30-45 minutes of walking. I simply cannot not wash my hair daily. For the sake of my own scalp’s health, I wash my hair daily. I know a lot of people may not agree with me on this, but from my own experience this is the only way I can control my own scalp health and hair fall. I’ve talked to my hair stylist and he recommended that I wash my hair daily because I have an oily skin and scalp.

Hair care routine:

  • I wash my hair daily
  • Apply Jojoba oil on my scalp whilst my hair is still damp
  • Dry my hair with a hair dryer. Starting in 2019, I’ve made the switch to dry my hair using Dyson Airwrap Pre-styler instead of T3 hair dryer.

Hair and Scalp Concerns

My hair/scalp concern:

  • Hair fall
  • Itchy scalp
  • Acne prone scalp

My pre-scandinavian biolabs routine works for me but of course I still see a lot of hair fall and occasionally itchy scalp prone to breakout. I was looking into alternative shampoo/conditioner that will work better and lucky me, this whole Hair Growth routine came.

The 30-day result

So I used the whole set for 30 days, and here are the results.

The Review

My experience:

After using it for a month, I have a mixed feeling about this set. I think you probably need to use it longer (they suggested 150 days) to see a noteworthy result. I do see a noticeable difference in the hair fall but not significant result in the hair growth phase. I love the fact that all the ingredients, including active ingredient, are 100% plant based.

The shampoo and conditioner last for about 45 days for me with daily use. However, I think because currently my hair is pretty short, I can get away with 45 days. The bottles are pretty small, both the shampoo and condition contains about 250ml of products each while the serum contains 50ml of products.

I finished the serum in about 28 days. I used 3 full pipettes daily on my scalp. The serum gives a burning sensation on my scalp to the point where I thought I wasn’t going to do this review because the burning sensation was so bad. I thought it’d get better if I use it daily and boy was I wrong. Nope, it still burn even after 28 days. You might notice in the photos that my scalp appear red, that’s because I took a picture right after I applied the serum and dry my hair.

Do the products work? Yes, somewhat. There’s less hair fall. I see less hair on the floor, in the tub and significantly less hair on my pillow. I don’t find my scalp to be as itchy anymore and I definitely do not have any acne breakout on my scalp during the 30 days that I use this product.

However, I don’t really see any new growth or change in thickness of my hair density. I don’t perceive my hair to be any thicker or thinner than before.

As I mentioned, I think 30 days is not enough to say there’s a significant result, however I do think this set can definitely help if you’re looking for a solution to your hair fall/thinning issues.

Pros

  • All 3 products smell clean. I think it has a eucalyptus and tea tree scent mixed in there. I really like the scent.
  • All natural 100% plant based ingredients.
  • All products actually contain key active ingredient Capilia Longa from the plant Curcuma Longa to help promote hair growth.
  • Also contains Niacinamide on the shampoo and serum.
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate free. Instead on, the shampoo contains Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate that’s actually considered to be sulfate free and non-irritant)
  • It actually helps with lessening the amount of hair fall. Preventing itchy scalp & reducing acne scalp.

Cons

  • Serum gives a burning sensation every usage. This is no joke, my skin turned red and quite warm after using the serum.
  • Quite expensive, if price is an issue. It’s almost cad$92 (conversion from Euro), not to mention you have to pay for duties and tax as soon as it enters Canada.
  • Serum is very runny, if you’re not careful during application (like me), it can go to other parts of your skin and eyes, and leaves you with a burning sensation.
