Glamorous Evening Makeup

https://youtu.be/DQyQMYXViEo

Today’s Glamorous Evening Makeup video tutorial is going to be slightly different. Instead of doing the makeup on myself, I’m doing it on my bff, Liz. She was going out for a party last Saturday night, and I wanted to make her look glam for the event. Liz is about a shade or two darker than me (1 shade darker in the Winter, and 2 in the Summer), and she has these amazing big gorgeous eyes and high cheekbones. You’ll see it when you watch the video!

UD Naked Smoky “Brown Smoky Eyes”

HAPPY  (Canadian) THANKSGIVING! I promised one last post before the end of the week and here we go! I wanted to use my UD Naked Smoky palette again, since I felt that I haven’t used it enough. I created a matte brown smoky eyes look, which is simple and easy. A brown smoky eyes is softer than black, and it’s also easier for beginners. So, if you haven’t try a brown smoky eyes yet, you should! Skip the falsies and winged liner for a more casual look.

Please check out my UD Naked Smoky review, and other tutorials!

UD Naked Smoky Tutorial “Grey”

Hi ya’ll! Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday! Today, I’m back with an UD Naked Smoky tutorial. This time, I used mostly the greys in the palette to create this glamorous smoky eyes. I apologize for missing for almost a week, I’ve mentioned on my Instagram account that I was having an issue with my left eye. Anyways, now I’m back, and you can expect couple posts from me this upcoming week. I have a few products I’ll be featuring, and don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for my daily updates!

I’m still loving my Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette, and I’m planning to create more looks using this palette. I’ve done a review and swatches on my previous post, so don’t forget to check my UD Naked Smoky review out!  So far, I’ve used 11 out of the 12 shades in the palette (hehehe). I’ll try to create more looks with this palette. This post is my 3rd look, if you want to check out my other posts using this palette, please check out my Iconic UD Smoky Eyes post, and MAC D for Danger post.

A quick note  on step 3 (top right corner), I applied Combust using a blending brush to blend out the edge of my crease color. This is an easy way to blend out your smoky eyes to make a smooth transition from the eyeshadow to your skin.

UD Naked Smoky Palette Review

Here’s my UD Naked Smoky Palette review! It is not a surprise that I’m a huge fan of Urban Decay, but not many people know I actually am not a big fan of the UD naked 1 and naked 2 palettes. I do like some of the eyeshadows in the palette, but the naked 1 and naked 2 weren’t always my favorite. However, when they released their UD Naked 3 palette, I was head over heels for that palette. I absolutely adore Naked 3, particularly because I am obsessed with anything Rose Gold tones.

I did not plan to buy the UD Naked Smoky, in fact, I thought it was just another hype. However, since I do not own the naked 1 and 2 palettes any longer, I thought why not give this Naked Smoky a try. No harm done, and I thought if I didn’t like it, I can just return it anyways. So, I bought the UD Naked Smoky palette from Sephora, and 3 days later it arrived at my mailbox.

When I took the palette out of the box, I was already impressed with the packaging. Then, the rest is history. I am in love with this palette! Yes, you can get other nude palettes with similar shades for a lesser price. However, the quality of this UD Naked Smoky is far more superior than any other eyeshadows, and much better than the other 3 naked palettes. Keep reading to find out why I love this palette!

UD Naked Smoky review

What is UD Naked Smoky Palette?

“Sweep on popular smoky eye looks with Urban Decay’s Naked Smoky. Packed with all the essentials needed to create the perfect neutral smoky eye, it offers an array of shades, a double-ended brush, and a detailed lookbook that breaks down four amazing ways to nail any smoky look. The eye shadow pans offer a smoky, transparent base, the magnetic closure on the case prevents shadow from spilling your bag, and the full-size mirror makes it easy to get a sultry look whenever the urge strikes.”

Sephora, 2015

Packaging

The case is gorgeous. It’s much better than UD Naked 1 and Naked 2. Much sturdier plastic packaging, and it looks luxurious with a cool smoke effect. It actually has a latch to close the palette, similar to the tin packaging from Naked 3. It’s not some flimsy magnetic clasp like the Naked 1. Gorgeous packaging!

The palette comes with a dual-ended brush, and an instructional booklet, which contains 4 looks you can follow. I’ve done the Iconic UD Smoky Eye look in my previous tutorial, so please check it out! I’ve also done a slightly less smoky look using this palette in my MAC D for Danger post.

Pigmentation & Blendability

The eyeshadows are very pigmented, even if you don’t apply eyeshadow base/primer, the shades are still pretty amazing. However, if you apply a base/primer, the colors are even more vibrant. On the swatches picture, I applied Urban Decay Primer Potion (original) as a base since I always wear my eyeshadow with primer anyways.

There are 3 shades that are quite similar to the other Naked palettes – Dirtysweet, Dagger, and Smolder. Dirtysweet  is quite similar to Half-Baked (Naked 1) but with less sparkle fallout. Dagger is very similar to Gunmetal (Naked 1), but with less shimmer. Smolder is similar to Hustle (Naked 1) but cooler in undertone.

Price

CA$64 from Sephora Canada, for 12 x 0.05oz.

UD Naked Smoky swatches(L-R) High; Dirtysweet; Radar; Armor;  Slanted;  Dagger;  Black Market; Smolder; Password; Whiskey; Combust; Thirteen)

Pros

  • Easy to blend
  • Less fallout than the other eyeshadows from other Naked palettes
  • Wide range of textures
  • Wearable shades – can create day to night look
  • Beautiful shades that fits almost everyone

Cons

  • Some shades are very similar to other Naked palettes.

UD Naked Smoky Tutorial “Iconic Smoky Eye”

As you know from my Instagram, I recently purchased and received my UD Naked Smoky Palette. I was so excited when I got it yesterday, and couldn’t wait to play around with it, so I created this UD Naked Smoky Tutorial! I bought mine online from Sephora since the palette was an online exclusive. It arrived within 3 days of my order, pretty fast and I’m one happy gal!

Anyways, I’ll try to do a review of the palette pretty soon. For now, I just wanted to share with you this look that I re-create from their leaflet. The palette came with a leaflet that contained several different looks you can achieve, and I chose to do the Iconic UD Smoky Eye look. I replaced some of the products, like the eyeliner, blush, lipstick etc since I don’t own those. Nevertheless, I used all the shades mentioned in the leaflet accordingly.

Personally, for me, this kind of smoky eye look is supposed to be messy and worn in, I skipped wearing false lashes. False lashes tend to make everything look more glamorous. If you prefer, though, feel free to add the falsies.

The transition shade, Combust, doesn’t really show up on pictures below because it’s very similar to my skin color. However, this step is very important whether the color shows up or not because this transition shade will allow for a smooth edge on your smoky eyes. It will diffuse the grey eyeshadow on the crease into your skin seamlessly.

The brow bone shade, Thirteen, is a vanilla shade. It might look like there’s nothing on the brow bone at first (top middle row) in the pictorial, but as you add those darker colors on the lid, the highlight becomes more prominent. If you like a highlight on the brow bone, feel free to add more at the end of the look. If you have a hooded lid, I recommend not to add too much or any since it might create a hooded effect even more.
