THEFACESHOP Canada (Product Reviews)

As you know, I recently received a few great products from THEFACESHOP Canada. If you have not checked out my post using these products, please check out my Lavender Glitter Party Makeup tutorial! It’s easy, fun, and definitely eye catching!

Have you tried any THEFACESHOP products? If you have, what’s your favorite product from this brand? If you haven’t, which product would you like to try? Leave your answer below on the comment section.

So, as part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers network, I was selected to give THEFACESHOP Canada products a try. Big shout out to Canadian Beauty Bloggers, as well as THEFACESHOP Canada! I received these 5 products in the mail  (L-R) – Freshian Big Mascara,  Candy Violet blush, Lavender Glitter eyeshadow, Purple Violet Color Proof eyeliner, and Pink Scarf Rose Ink Lipquid. Keep on reading below to find out the swatches, as well as my review on these products!

THEFACESHOP Canada                                                                                      THEFACESHOP Canada

Let’s start with THEFACESHOP Canada Freshian Big Mascara (01 Curling). The Freshian Big mascara is described as  “Mascara that provides natural eyelash looks. Curling & volume effects are well seen!”. There’s actually a Volume version of this mascara, the one that I received is the Curling effect. I actually quite like the wand on this mascara, it’s thin and I can get the bristles right in between my lashes. The formula is not too runny, and it does not dry out too quick either.

THEFACESHOP Canada

THEFACESHOP Canada Freshian Big Mascara (01 Curling)

In the “before” picture below (top row), you can see that my lashes are stick-straight and long. I have to curl my lashes before I apply the mascara (middle row). As you can see in the “after” picture (bottom row), my lashes lost some of its curls but gain extra length. The mascara itself does not cause my lashes to clump, it separates the lashes pretty well. The reason why this mascara does not keep the curls of my lashes is because it does not dry quick enough. If you’re looking for a curling mascara, you should look for one that is waterproof since waterproof mascara dries out faster when you apply it, which then would help to lock the curls in place. This mascara is NOT waterproof, and so it does not hold the curls very well. It is still better than other non-waterproof mascara though in terms of holding the curls.

THEFACESHOP Freshian Big Mascara

THEFACESHOP Canada also sent me a Candy Violet blush! Prior to this, I did not own a violet blush. This was my first time using a purple-toned blush. I know it looks quite pink in the picture, but it is actually a light purple if compared to other pink/rosy blushes. It is a very pale cool tone blush, so I wasn’t quite sure how this would show up on my skin.

The blush, since it’s purple, is really great to brighten your skin. As you know, purple/violet works as a brightening corrector. So, this blush does a good job to brighten up your skin. It has a little bit of shimmer, and it works well as a highlighter. The downside to this blush is the fact that it’s too light for my skin. I can’t really use this as a blush on its own, so I use it as a highlighter or a brightener on top of my other blush. I also can use this blush to change the “warmness” of my other blushes. For example, if I think my other blush is too warm-toned, I can apply this blush first then the warmer blush on top to make it more cool-toned or neutral.

One of my favorite products from this package is this stunning sparkly purple eyeshadow! THEFACESHOP Lavender Glitter eyeshadow is described as “Highly pigmented Single Shadow Glitter gives a uniform and ultra shiny finish. Its silky, easy-to-adjust texture applies easily and adheres without smudging, for long-lasting hold.”

Oh, this gorgeous eyeshadow is amazing! Just enough glitters and there was no fallout at all! Glitter eyeshadows are notorious for their fallout, where the glitters will be everywhere EXCEPT in your eyelids where you want it to be! Not this eyeshadow! The glitters in the eyeshadow stay on the eyelids. You can also apply this eyeshadow with a wet brush, and it’ll make the shade even more purple and sparklier. Don’t believe me? Check out my Lavender Glitter Party makeup tutorial to see the eyeshadow in action.

My other favorite product from THEFACESHOP Canada PR Package is this Purple Violet Color Proof eyeliner. I wish the eyeliner is slightly more purple, but as you can see from my swatch, it’s actually pretty dark in color. On my tutorial, you can see that it looks almost black. However, I don’t really mind it. It almost looks like a soft black eyeliner, which will be a great alternative for those who prefer a non-black eyeliner. Sometimes a black eyeliner can look too harsh on those with fair-light skin tones. The hint of violet in this eyeliner will bring out the colors on your eyes. Purple is universally flattering on everyone and every eye colors!

THEFACESHOP CanadaTHEFACESHOP Color Proof Purple Violet eyeliner

The last product in my package is THEFACESHOP Pink Scarf Rose Ink lipquid. It’s a liquid lipstick, hence the name lipquid. It is described as ” [An] all-in-one lipstick, gloss, and tint comes in 12 shades and provides hydration and hold for up to 12 hours! The specially shaped applicator helps both define lip contours and fill in the lips. Using the chisel tip, you can define and color your lips with great precision.”

This lipquid is similar to a lip stain. It stains your lips with a pretty color, and you can layer it to make the color more intense. Since it is a stain, it lasts pretty long even after eating and drinking. When I did the swatch for this lipquid, my hand was stained for the whole day.

I love this lipquid, it’s not sticky or drying like other brands, and it’s also moisturizing. This shade Pink Rose Scarf is a beautiful shade of rosy pink, which is very flattering on everyone. One tip on using this lipquid is to apply it in layers. When you apply it in layers, apply it sparingly to control the intensity of the stain. On my previous tutorial, I applied a sheer layer on my lips, then I added more layers just in the center of my lips to create a gradient effect.

Lavender Glitter Party Makeup THEFACESHOP Canada

I can’t believe it’s almost December! Are you guys ready for the Holiday season? If you are ready to attend parties and eat great food, then you should be prepared with great makeup looks! For this post, I want to share with this Lavender Glitter party makeup. One tip I want to share is that I applied it dry first as a base, then dipped my brush in water and re-apply the eyeshadow wet to get more shine from the glitters!

Just beginning of this week, I received a PR package from THEFACESHOP Canada. I was thrilled when I saw all the products they sent me, thus why I created this look! AThis year, break out of your earthy tones, and neutrals. Come join me in this world of sparkles and pastels. You have to give this look a try! It’s not too out there, but at the same time it has just enough color to make you stand out from the rest.

What is your favorite Holiday look? Let me know in the comment below!

Lavender Glitter party makeup

This post is very much inspired by the Korean makeup trends (K-Pop makeup) – luminous dewy skin, simple eyes, and gradient lip (or ombre). This look is very simple, and in a lot of way very cute and girly. The Koreans, they don’t really wear much contouring on the face or eyes. They focus mostly on a very youthful-looking skin which looks very dewy, and Popsicle lips. I skipped the falsies because most of the Korean actresses and singers don’t wear them. It’s not a big part of their makeup ritual, unlike the Japanese who are huge fans of falsies.

The reason why I used 2 blushes for this tutorial is because the blush from THEFACESHOP Canada is a bit too light for my skin. Since it does not show up on my skin, I used my Chanel blush, and then used the one from THEFACESHOP Canada on top of the Chanel one to soften the color, and highlight my cheeks.

I’ll be posting a review of THEFACESHOP Canada products I used on this tutorial next week! So, don’t forget to subscribe so you can get my latest post in your inbox (subscribe button is located on the top right side bar).

Maison Kitsune Indigo Palette Review

You all know my love for Shu Uemura x Maison Kitsune Holiday Colection, yes? And as promised, here’s my review and swatches on the Maison Kitsune for Shu Uemura Beauty Remix palette in Indigo. This Maison Kitsune Indigo palette review is based on entirely my own honest opinion and experience with the palette. I bought this palette myself, and I’ve done 3 tutorials using it. Please check out my tutorials if you want to see how the shadows look like on my eyes.

Why do I choose the Maison Kitsune Indigo palette over the Plum? Well, that’s probably because I prefer the colour selection on the Indigo over the Plum. Don’t get me wrong, I think the Plum palette is gorgeous, but I’m more attracted to the shadows in the Indigo palette. The difference between the Indigo and the Plum palettes is that the Indigo palette leans towards the cooler tones, while the Plum palette is a lot warmer compared to the Indigo.

Maison Kitsune for Shu Uemura What is Maison Kitsune for Shu Uemura Beauty Remix Smoky Eyes & Cheek Palette #Indigo?

“Sharpen up for a night of clubbing and electro beats in a “new classic” Maison Kitsuné style with the beauty remix smokey eye & cheek palette. Inspired by Western smokey eye and Tokyo street girl’s high cheek. Be bold and chic French style, or subtle and modest nipponesque, two opposites create a new harmony. Play with accent colors on smokey eyes for a fresh, spirited twist. A happy collision between effortless French style smokey eye with navy and pink blush under eyes inspired by a youthful Tokyo spirit.”

Shu Uemura Canada, 2015

This collection is all about East meets West! Bringing the French chic and Japanese street style together, this palette is the perfect combination of East meets West vibe. This Maison Kitsune Indigo palette consists of stunning shades from smoky navy to sparkling gold, and pink blush to top it all off.

Maison Kitsune Indigo palette review

Packaging

As you can see from the first picture on this post, the Maison Kitsune Indigo palette comes in plastic package. The front cover is a pretty artwork, and it’s very colourful. Open the palette up, and you get a huge mirror inside, 7 eyeshadows and a blush. You also get 2 makeup brushes along with it. I don’t use the brushes that come with the palette, just because I find them too small.

Shades & Finish

7 eyeshadows and 1 blush.

Top row (L-R):

  • #2 pressed eye shadow IR black 985 – gunmetal grey (metallic)

Pigmentation/Blendability/Longevity

All the eyeshadows and the blush blend easily, and they last for a good while, especially if you use primer underneath. Who doesn’t use primer nowadays, right?!

The only issue I have is that some of the eyeshadows, even though they might look highly pigmented on the palette, on the eyes they aren’t that great. In my case, I think the Gold, Green and Pink shades look pretty, but don’t really show up on my eyes. As you can see from my tutorial #1 and #3, the Gold and Pink are very sheer, but it still looks very chic. The glitter shades are very pretty as highlighter, to be placed on top of other eyeshadows (like in my tutorial #2).

The Navy and Black eyeshadows are gorgeous, and very pigmented. The shades are beautiful on its own but I have to say, if you layer a colored base underneath it, the shades pop even more especially the Navy. Absolutely gorgeous. My Navy smoky eyes tutorial show just how stunning the blue eyeshadow is.

Maison Kitsune Indigo palette review

Pros

  • Beautiful palette
  • Gorgeous eyeshadows and blush
  • Eyeshadows and blush have a great pigment pay-off
  • Lots of sparkles on this palette
  • Eyeshadows with sparkles/glitters are quite sheer, but in a way it makes wearing glitter very chic and not tacky.

Cons

  • Eyeshadows with sparkles/glitters are quite sheer, so in terms of pigments pay-off it’s not that great.
  • The lighter shades might not work for darker skin tone
  • Pricy

Shu Uemura Lightbulb Foundation Review

As the weather gets colder and my skin gets drier, I’ve been craving for a more luminous dewy skin. For this reason, I’ve recently picked up the Shu Uemura Lightbulb Foundation, and used it on myself for couple days. As you know, I was picked as one of the winners for the Shu Uemura Haute Street Style Instagram competition, and one of the products that they gave me was this foundation. However, just to be clear, even though I received the foundation for free, my review is based on my experience and honest opinion.

Shu Uemura Lightbulb Foundation reveiw

Picture courtesy of Shu Uemura Canada

First of all, I did not use the Shu Uemura lightbulb foundation sponge because I didn’t have one. Instead, I used a damped sponge to apply this on my face. Secondly, this foundation is shade 754, which is Medium Beige. It’s a pretty good match for my skin, which is an in-between MAC NC25-30, or Diorskin Star foundation 030, or MUFE HD Foundation 120 (now called Y245).

If you are not familiar with the Shu Uemura foundation shades, it comes with 3 digits, the first digit represents the skin undertone, and it is either a 3, 5 or 7 (and sometimes 9). 3 is for Pink undertone, 5 for Neutral undertone, and 7 for Yellow undertone (and 9 is very yellow).

Shu Uemura Lightbulb Foundation 754

Packaging

The Shu Uemura Lightbulb foundation comes in a gorgeous glass bottle. Even though it’s glass, the bottle is very lightweight and transparent. The bottle also comes with a pump, and 1 pump can cover the whole face!

Application

If you want to do just 1 pump of foundation to cover your whole face, my advice is to do it the way I do it:

  1. Squeeze 1 pump at the back of hand or clean palette.
  2. Pick a bit of foundation using your ring finger.
  3. Dot it on your face, and blend it using a damped sponge.

You can apply the Shu Uemura Lightbulbfoundation using your finger, or foundation brush. However, if you want that luminous finish, I really suggest applying the foundation using a damped sponge (lightbulb sponge/beauty blender/any non-latex sponge).

Longevity

If you do not set this foundation and have combination/oily skin, this foundation might not last long. You need to set the foundation with a translucent powder, or if you prefer to keep the luminous finish check out the Shu Uemura Lightbulb Glowing Face Powder. For this review I did not set my foundation.

If you don’t set your foundation and has combination/oily skin, this foundation will last may be around 4-5 hours. It’s quite slippery, and within an hour you will look like an oil slick if you don’t set it. If you set the foundation, it’s good for 7-8 hours.

Shade/Finish/Coverage

13 shades ranging from light to medium shades, with pink, neutral and yellow undertones. The finish is luminous, with full coverage.

The Shu Uemura Lightbulb foundation has a full coverage, but it feels very lightweight on the skin. Its luminous dewy finish makes my skin looks quite like skin. I really like this dewy finish especially for winter when my skin is looking a bit dry.

Price

CAD$66 for 0.9 fl.oz./27 mL.

Pros

  • Full coverage but lightweight
  • Luminous glowing finish
  • Great for dry/normal skin
  • Skin looks like skin but better
  • Match really well for my Asian skin
  • Blurs out imperfection

Cons

  • Combination/oily skin might find this to be too oily
  • Pricy

Maison Kitsune for Shu Uemura Smoky Eyes

Another look using Maison Kitsune for Shu Uemura Indigo eye/cheek palette! This time, I really wanted to showcase the gorgeous blue eyeshadow fron the palette, so I created this blue smoky eyes look! This look is super easy to recreate, and it’s a really fresh take on a non-black smoky eyes. The only product that is black is my mascara, even my eyeliner is blue (surprise, surprise..lol).

We’ve all seen black smoky eyes, brown smoky eyes, grey smoky eyes, well why not an all blue smoky eyes? This blue smoky eyes will bring out those with brown, or green, or grey eyes! I love how the blue shadow from the palette looks almost jewel like. It’s not too dark, yet still have a rich deep blue hue.

For the lashes, I decided to apply the Maison Kitsune Jewel-Fur-for-a Wink falsies since I thought it was going to add a bit of fun to the whole look. Very extravagant, perfect for Holiday party makeup! Of course, you can skip this special falsies and wear the regular ones, but I think this falsies are amazing! Also, if you want to know what else I’ve bought from this collection, check out my Instagram account!

UD Vice 4 Review & Swatches

I posted a picture of this UD Vice 4 palette last month on my Instagram, but didn’t get the chance to post it on the blog nor to swatch this palette. So, today I decided to post this UD Vice 4 Review & Swatches. I’ve posted a tutorial using this vice 4 palette on my previous post, please check it out! I’ll be posting more tutorials using this palette in the near future.

YES THIS PALETTE IS LIMITED EDITION! So, if you want it you better get it before it’s gone! Actually at this moment when I’m writing this post, this palette is already out of stock in Sephora. I was lucky to have bought it right when it was released in Sephora’s website, along with my KVD Mi Vida Loca Remix palette.

ud vice 4 review

What is UD Vice 4?
“A limited-edition palette packed with 20 gorgeous, never-before-seen shades, a huge mirror, a double-ended brush, and a chic bag.

These shades are filled with rich, deep jewel tones in a wide range of finishes—from velvety-smooth mattes and shimmering metallics to shades infused with micro-glitter. Each Eyeshadow in Vice4 is formulated with Urban Decay’s own Pigment Infusion System™, a proprietary blend of ingredients that deliver rich, velvety, blendable color that lasts and sparkle that stays in place.”

Sephora, 2015

First Impression

Gorgeous palette, with beautiful shades. You get some colorful shades, you get neutral ones, some with sparkles, some are matte. The packaging is breathtaking, I absolutely in love with the cover. Very pretty! The eyeshadows are very vibrant in color, very pigmented. Knowing how the UD palettes are, I expected these shadows to be smooth and blendable, and they are!

ud vice 4 review

Shades

There are 20 shades in this palette, and I categorize them according to their rows (across from L-R). The first row seems to be where the “Party” shades with all the pearls and glitters. The second row is the “Reds”, most of the shadows on this row has a red/pinky undertone. The third row is the “Greens” since the majority of the shades on this row is green, while the other 2 is more on the taupe-brown shade. The fourth row is the “Orange” since the shades on this row is very warm. I find that this palette doesn’t really have a pattern, but oh well going across makes more sense than going down the column.

  • First row
    • Bones (oyster satin with pearl)
    • Grip (taupe matte with iridescent micro-glitter)
    • Deadbeat (black satin with micro-glitter)
    • Beat Down (deep metallic violet with blue micro-glitter)
    • Pandemonium (no description from Sephora, so my description of this shade is deep plum with micro-glitter)
  • Second row
    • Framed (light neutral matte-satin)
    • Fast-ball (metallic peachy pink with micro-glitter)
    • 1985 (metallic fuchsia with fuchsia micro-glitter)
    • Underhand (burgundy-brown satin)
    • Harlot (metallic lavender)
  • Third row
    • Discreet (soft dusty mauve matte)
    • Grasshopper (metallic emerald w/green micro-glitter)
    • C-Note (frosted green with micro-glitter)
    • Arctic (bright teal with tonal sparkle)
    • Robbery (deep metallic brown-gunmetal)
  • Fourth row
    • Bitter (reddish brown matte)
    • Flame (bright orange with gold micro-glitter)
    • Low (brown matte with iridescent micro-glitter)
    • Crowbar (black with golden metallic pearl/micro-glitter)
    • Delete (deep chestnut brown matte-satin)

ud vice 4 swatchesPros

  • 20 shades x 0.6 oz
  • Variety of shades and textures
  • High pigmentation
  • Easily blended
  • Buttery and smooth
  • Long lasting
  • $70 for 20 shades, which come down to $3-ish/shade
  • Can be used wet to create an even more intense shine

Cons

  • Limited edition
  • Some shades have a lot of fallout, esp. the ones with sparkles!

Shu Uemura Maison Kitsune Indigo Palette

Now that Halloween is over, it’s time for the Holiday looks! I recently bought Shu Uemura Maison Kitsue Indigo palette, which is part of Shu Uemura’s 2015 Holiday collection, and this palette shall opens my Holiday looks for 2015! I bought several other products from the collection, but for today I’ll only use the palette. The Shu Uemura Maison Kitsune Holiday 2015 Collection consists of amazing products, and you guys should really check it out! The palettes are limited edition, so grab them before they’re sold out!

For today’s look, I decided to do a cat-eye smoky look. This look is great for monolids or hooded lids. If you have hooded lids, open your eyes when you’re applying the outer V shade (the Indigo). You need to apply this shade just slightly above the hooded part so that when your eyes are open, you can still see the color.

Day of the Dead Skull Makeup

I think this Day of the Dead Skull Makeup will be my last look for this month. This is a requested look from a friend on Instagram. Before we begin, I’d like to say that I respect the Mexican culture and those who celebrate the Day of the Dead. There’s no intent of cultural appropriation. I created this look because I was interested in the way the Mexican culture celebrates their loved ones who are no longer with us. Its vibrant and colorful use of face paintings serve as a reminder to remember those who have passed as well as celebration of life.

In any case, should you decide to dress up as a Catrina, or have Sugar Skull painted on your face for Halloween, please reconsider. The Day of the Dead is a festival where people pay respect to those who have passed. It is a culture! Be respectful, please.

Anyways, I do not have a step-by-step tutorial for this look.

Killer Clown Halloween Makeup

I’m back with another Halloween tutorial! This time I’ve decided to do a Killer Clown Halloween makeup. This look is fairly easy, and all you need is a simple basic face paint along with some artist brushes. For this tutorial, I used Wolfe FX Face painting palette called Hydrocolor Essentials, which are water activated. Other water-activated brands that are easier to find in Canada include MAC Pro Chromacake (can be found on their website or MAC Pro store at Bloor, Toronto), and Snazaroo face paints which can be found in most Art Stores (Curry’s, Michael’s).

Even though water-activated face paints are easy to use, they can also be easily removed. So, be very careful if you like to lick your lips or if you’re going to drink a lot of liquid while wearing this makeup. Also, please note that certain colors are not recommended to be used near the eyes, esp. those with red and orange dyes.

*For Monster Grin tutorial, please check out my Monster Grin post*

*Please check out my other Halloween post*

Killer Clown makeup tutorial

A trick to make the face paint stays well on the skin, and not crack is to dip the brush very lightly into water. Try not to cake on the face paint, the thinner the layer, the less likely it’ll crack. For this Killer Clown look, I didn’t want a smooth white face since why would a killer pay so much attention to their white base anyways, right?! So, don’t worry about the imperfect and streaky white base since it’ll add a bit more to the character.

How-to:

  1. I applied White face paint all over my face, and on my neck.
  2. Using a Black face paint, I created some evil looking brows.
  3. With a red paint, I created a diamond shape on my right eye. As well as a round shape on my nose.
  4. I created a huge smile on my face, and the outlines of teeth using a Black face paint.
  5. Add details on the teeth by adding light brown, then dark brown at the edges of the teeth. I also added some cracks on the teeth.
  6. Add some scracthes, blood splatter, dirt splatter all over the face for added effect.

The pictures above are pretty self explanatory, I think. If you have any questions/inquiries feel free to comment or message me.

Grim Reaper Halloween Makeup

Another Halloween makeup look for today’s post! I have been wanting to do a skull makeup, so I created this Grim Reaper Halloween makeup look. I wanted to created a more evil, creepy skull look, so I googled up “Grim Reaper” and used the image I found as a reference.

*For my other Halloween makeup tutorials, please check out “Halloween” category*

The_Grim_Reaper

I sooo need to practice on my blending, as well as the teeth. It’s really hard to do the teeth, so note to self – practice drawing skull and teeth! I also should have leave the teeth outline after I colored it bone colored. So, if you want an easier to do the teeth, color it first before outlining the teeth! Also, for the “bone” part, I mixed beige cream product with white. I wanted an off white color, not a stark white.

skull makeup step by step

Anyways, let’s get on the tutorial!

  1. I drew outlines of bones using an angled eyebrow brush and a matte black eyeshadow.
  2. Mixing a beige cream with white, I applied this “bone” color on the areas where the bones are.
  3. You can set the cream product with an eyeshadow or translucent powder.
  4. For the darker areas, I filled it using a black face paint. I left the eye sockets last since I have to put my contacts in, and I didn’t want to get it messy.
  5. Using a white cream product (you can use white face paint), I filled in the teeth dragging the color upwards towards the face for the upper teeth, and down towards the chin for the lower teeth.
  6. I put my contacts in, and filled my eye sockets with black face paint.
  7. For shading around the bone areas, I used brown eyeshadow first then grey to deepen the shadows. All I can say about this part is to have the areas shaded as detailed as you can. I added some eyebrow creases as well to make the whole look a bit more evil looking.
