IMATS Toronto 2015 – Recap

As you all know, I went to IMATS Toronto on Saturday, and I had a blast! I’ve been to the IMATS since 2010, but last year I was back in Jakarta, so I really wanted to go this year. Fortunately, I was able to attend it with N, and I’m glad I went this year. I managed to meet my role models, my mentors, and couple friends! The meetings were even more amazing than the shopping experience!

IMATS Toronto 2015
IMATS Toronto 2015

So, this year, the IMATS were held in the North building of the Metro Toronto Convention Center, which is unusual since in the past it was held in the South building. The space was a tad smaller, but it was still pretty good. There were a lot of people who came to the tradeshow, and there were long queues everywhere! I came around 10am, but looking for parking was challenging since there were Blue Jays game and University fair. After finding parking, I checked in at around 10.30, and already long lineups as far as the eyes can see! NYX, MUFE, Benefit, MAC, Morphe, Crown, Nigel, Frends booths were packed!

Anyways, this year when I posted a picture on Instagram regarding IMATS, Michael Key commented on the picture and I promised him that I would look for him. I managed to see him (more like hunting him), and took a picture with him! If you guys don’t know who Michael Key is, you should know! Michael Key is 2-time Emmy Winning makeup artist, executive of IMATS and Makeup Artist Magazine. He is the man behind IMATS, so of course I have to take a picture and say hi to him. Such a great guy, so friendly and humble.

Then, I managed to see Kevin James Bennett while I was at Eve Pearl’s booth. As you can see on the photo collage below, I was fan girl-ing at KJB. I was like “I’m a big fan of your work!!!” *laughs* Eve Pearl was there and told him “she’s your fan!”. Unreal! I mean, KJB and Eve Pearl are like the big names in the beauty industry! I still can’t believe I managed to talk to them, and took pictures with them. It felt so surreal! They were giving out tips and tricks, chit chatting with the attendees.

Kevin James Bennett and Eve Pearl are always in the IMATS Toronto, so if you missed them this year don’t forget to look for them next year. KJB and Eve Pearl are Emmy Winning Makeup Artists, they KNOW what they are talking about! All of their classes are very informative, and they are so kind, always willing to answer questions.

Eve Pearl Makeup Demo

All the makeup workshops were amazing! I cannot say enough about these classes. I only managed to sit in on 2 classes this time, but it was really fun and informative. For beauty, I went to Eve Pearl makeup demo. She started out by giving us tips on how to make it in the industry, how to pack our makeup kits and how to work on clients. Then, of course, she proceeded by showing us her famous “Reverse Contouring” technique. I live tweeted during the workshop, so check out my twitter!

Eve was given an hour for her class, and within 45mins she managed to do 4 makeup while talking to us and answering our questions. I only took pictures of 3 of the attendees, but there were actually 4 whose makeup was done by her. She showed us how to do her “Reverse Contouring” technique on all skintone, just by using her Pro kit. I’ll try to apply this technique on myself in the future, so wait for the post!

Gregory Arlt

I wanted to attend Gregory Arlt beauty class, but I didn’t manage to do so since I wanted to see The Strain demo. So, I do apologize for being unable to share any tips he shared. I know a couple other bloggers who attended this class, and they might have tips on their blogs! Anyways, I managed to snap this picture of his class moments after The Strain demo, and before I saw Michael Key walking around.

The workshop that I really wanted to attende to was “The Strain” Character Demo done by Sean Samson and Neil Morrill. This demo took 1.5hr. Sean and Neil showed us how they applied the Foam Latex pieces, they also demonstrated how they colored the pieces. It was pretty great since N and I loved the show, and we really enjoyed the demonstration. They told us that during the filming, these prosthetic pieces took around 3hr to be put on the talent.

Besides the workshops and meeting all these amazing makeup artist, I walked around to take a look at what the booths offer. I absolutely love how some of these amazing makeup artists took their time to talk to the attendees. As you can see on the pictures below, Sebastien Tardif and Eve Pearl were showing attendees how to correctly apply their products to enhance their beauty!

Of course there would be lots of body painting around the IMATS. Pretty, colorful, and meticulous. These body paintings took hours to complete. There were some demo on how to cover tattoo, and prosthetic application as well in some of the booths.

I, obviously, have to do some shopping around! There were some good deals on the products. I bought a smaller version of the illustrator palettes, scabs, liquid latex, and Wolfe face paint from Crown Brush/Jordane Cosmetics. I bought Eve Pearl’s Pro Kit, Invisible powder, powder puff, eyebrow razor, and finger palettes. Eve really gave great discounts! The powder puff was only $1, the Pro kit was only $100! What a steal!

Other than that, I bought a couple of spfx brushes from Bdellium, another palette from Crowne, and some other miscellaneous stuffs – MAQPro cream corrector and primary color from MUSST, mink lashes from Esquido, and color switch along with shadow shield from Nigel.

IMATS Toronto 2015 Tips

As promised, here is my IMATS Toronto 2015 tips! What kind of tips you asked? Tips on how to survive the tradeshow, of course (just kidding)! If it is your first time going to a tradeshow, I want to share some stuff that I think could be beneficial for first-time goers! I wished someone told me about all these stuff way back when I started going years a go. I felt like I missed out in a lot of stuff because I didn’t realize some of the things that were going on during the IMATS. So, over the years, I learnt from my experiences and decide to share these tips with you!

There were, are and will be a lot of things going on at the IMATS! So, let’s get on with the tips!

IMATS Toronto

Tip #1

Wear comfortable shoes (and clothes)! Know that you will be walking a lot, and there will be a lot of people in the tradeshow. Wear comfortable shoes so you can walk around and check out all the booths. There isn’t many chairs available in the tradeshow, so again, wear comfortable shoes. Also, some booths will be jam packed with a lot of people, watch out for those toes if you’re planning to wear sandals. Some attendees might get over-excited, so there might be some pushing involved, therefore please wear comfortable shoes.

Tip #2

Bring water! You will be there for the whole day,  you’ll be walking a lot. Keep yourselves hydrated. Have a water bottle in your bag, and drink plenty of water during the day. There are, of course, vending machines and people selling drinks at the show, but those are overpriced. I’d recommend bringing your own water bottle, save those bucks for the brushes!

Tip #3

GO TO THE WORKSHOPS! I cannot reiterate enough how important and amazing these workshops are. They are really informative and beneficial, especially since they will be taught by the industry’s experts! They are the masters, gurus, experts, professionals in the industry, you will learn a lot! Take notes, and ask questions! These speakers KNOW exactly what they are talking about. They are not some girls next door who made videos, these people work in the industry and they know what they are doing! Please, go to the workshops!

imats TORONTO

Tip #4

Check out the schedules before you attend the show, and familiarize yourselves with the speaker’s bio. By checking out the schedule prior to attending the show, you’ll be able to organize your time while shopping so you don’t miss out on the amazing speakers. Check out their bios so that you know who they are, and hey who knows, they might be sitting next to you when they are taking a break!

Tip #5

Make a list of what you want. There will be a lot of booths and brands attending the show, thus making it quite overwhelming. Make sure you check which brands are attending prior to going to the show. Make a list of which booths you want to attend, or which products you want to buy. That way you get to work on your budget. Trust me, if you don’t make a list, you might end up buying more than you expect. Making a list of products that you want will also make it easier for the sales people to assist you, especially if you have a lot of products you need.

Tip #6

Check the exhibitors list, and prioritize which one you want to go see first. By figuring out which brands are going to attend, you’ll be able to go to their booths first before things run out! For example, the Make Up For Ever booth is one of the most popular booths in the IMATS, most of their products run out pretty quick. So, if MUFE is in one of your list, you might want to stop by their booth first! The other brand that’s quite popular is Crown Brush, which I think you all should put that down on your list! Crown brushes are amazing in quality, and at the IMATS they are sold at a pretty affordable prices.

imats toronto

Tips #7

Bring cash! Some of the exhibitors don’t carry machines…well back then some of them don’t, but I think at this moment most of them do carry credit card machines. However, I still recommend bringing in cash, especially if you have a budget to adhere too.

Tip#8

Bring a backpack (or a large shoulder bag). I recommend a backpack since you might end up buying a lot of products, and your bag might start getting heavy especially since you have to walk around a lot. Having a backpack will ease your shoulder since the weight is equally distributed to both shoulders. A large shoulder bag would be useful too, so you can carry all the products in your bag, instead of having it in different plastic bags on  your hand. Bringing a medium to large size bag is definitely beneficial. However, from my past experiences, the IMATS organizer do give out a large free shopping bag for everyone. Hopefully, this year they’ll do the same. I usually bring a backpack just because I prefer to have my hands free so I can do swatches.

OCC Lip Tars

Tip #9

Talking about swatches, don’t forget to bring wet wipes! I usually bring baby wipes to clean up my hands from all the swatches. I also bring anti-bacterial hand sanitizer because I’m a bit of a germaphobe. I tend to put sanitizer before and after doing swatches. I don’t want to be bringing bacteria into the samples, nor do I want bacterias on my hand after I swatch them.

Tip #10

Smile and have fun! It’s a really fun event to go to, so enjoy the experience and have fun! If you are tired or need a breather, go out and check out Front St for some food or drinks. You can always return after an hour or two, as long as you have the ticket/wristband with you.

Extra tips for bloggers/makeup artists – bring your name cards, be nice to everyone, and smile! You never know who you’ll meet, so always be kind to everyone.

IMATS Toronto 2015

Hi everyone! Today’s post is not a tutorial nor review. I want to talk about the IMATS (International Make-up Artist Trade Show)! Beauty lovers all around the world should know that IMATS is the biggest makeup trade show in the world. I have attended the IMATS Toronto since 2010, with the exception of 2014 when I was in Jakarta with my family. This year, the IMATS Toronto 2015 will be held at the Metro Convention Center, from September 26-27. Are you going to be there?

*Check out my IMATS posts from prior years!*

IMATS

This year, I will be attending the IMATS again (on Saturday), and I can hardly wait! Let me tell you that (in my opinion) the best part about the IMATS is actually the workshops! Really and truly, for $45/day, you will learn so much from the workshops. The keynote speakers of these workshops are well-known celebrity makeup artists who will show you loads of tips and tricks. I met with Rae Morris in 2013, and that was totally surreal! She was so approachable and kind. In 2012, I sat in Gordon Smith session, where he talked a lot about  his works and the future of prosthetics/animatronics. These workshops are a must to attend!

Rae Morris

This year, the 2 keynote speakers are Adrien Morot and Gregory Arlt. I can’t wait to be sitting on their workshops and just absorb everything they have to say. Adrien Morot is an Oscar Nominee for his work in Barney’s Version. He will be doing a demo on stage on special effects makeup.

Gregory Arlt, everyone knows who he is right??? Gregory Arlt is MAC Pro’s Director of Makeup Artistry, and Katy Perry’s makeup artist! His works can be seen in the runways from Paris to New York. His list of celebrity clients include Dita Von Teese, Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, and Victoria Beckham. Gregory Arlt of Mac Pro will be showing attendees how to achieve a flawless skin without filter! This is a must to attend! I’ll be at the front seat, just you all wait and see.

Other speakers include the wizard of makeup Kevin James Bennett, master of reverse contouring Eve Pearl, makeup veteran Randy Daudlin, and many more! Check out the IMATS speaker’s bios to see who will be there, and their schedules.

OPI Nail Polishes

Besides the workshops, of course there’s the shopping! There were deals everywhere you see, and these deals were awesome! I cannot wait to see which brands will show up this year. I’m definitely eyeing for new sets of lashes, perhaps more brushes, and nail polishes. I will do an IMATS Tips post next week to prepare us (and our wallet) when we enter the show.

Lastly, one of the main events of the IMATS that I find very enjoyable is the Battle of the Brushes. Battle of the Brushes is IMATS makeup competitions, which are split into 2 groups – beauty/fantasy (2hr time limit) and character/prosthetics (3hr time limit). The competition yields amazing final results, and it is such an inspiring event to attend to. I, especially, love seeing the results from the character/prosthetics competition! Some of the pieces were mind blowing, and you wouldn’t know that they are all done by students or fresh graduates from makeup school!

IMATS Student Competition

Have you been on the IMATS before? What are your thoughts about it? If you have not, are you going to consider going to the show?

Yaz Bukey for Shu Uemura

As most of you would know, I’ve recently attended a beauty event held at Hudson’s Bay Toronto (downtown) with my friend, Lynn! She invited me to join her to attend the Yaz Bukey for Shu Uemura live appearance. Of course, I couldn’t missed this chance! I’ve shared some pictures in regard to this event over on my Instagram, so don’t forget to check them out! I’ll be posting more videos, especially the pro tips by Ludovic Engrand (Shu Uemura makeup artist and PR Manager) over on my Instagram account. So, don’t forget to follow me on Instagram!

yaz bukey

Paris-based artist and jewelery designer, Yaz Bukey, collaborated with Shu Uemura to release her makeup collection. From the live appearance q&a session hosted by David Lackie, Yaz mentioned that her collection is about “becoming the woman you want to be“. Her collection consisted of 4 different character of Yazettes – pink, blue, yellow and green. The idea behind her characters were 4 girlfriends with different personalities who are having fun, and each one of them received something special from a secret lover, Mr. Shu Shu. Yaz said “we all need Shu Shu in our lives…every women need their Shu Shu“.

Shu Uemura

Ludovic Engrand worked alongside with Yaz Bukey for more than a year! They also created a special Yaz’s signature matte red lipstick. Ludovic did say during the q&a session, that the 34 items in this collection is the most they have so far for a Shu Uemura’s collaboration. They created different textures and finish to create a palette that is suitable for all skintone and for women to have choices, to compliment Yaz’s theme of “becoming the woman you want to be”, and that “beauty has no limit.”

yaz bukey for shu uemura

David Lackie asked Yaz and Ludovic what is the must-have product from this collection, and Ludovic answered with the cult’s favorite Shu Uemura cleansing oil! Not only the cleansing oil is great for your skin, for this collection, Yaz specially designed the cleansing oil bottles to look like “4 girls in front of their mirror talking about makeup, and they come alive.”

For me, I think the must-have from this Yaz Bukey for Shu Uemura collection is Yaz’s matte red lipstick. This red lipstick is matte, and has a blue undertone. Ludovic mentioned that it’ll work for every skintone. It’s a beautiful color, and I can’t wait to swatch it for you guys! I’ll try to do a tutorial with that red lipstick soon.

I only bought the palette (which was signed by Yaz!), and the red lipstick from the collection. I have used Shu Uemura’s eyeshadows before during the Brave Beauty competition, so I know that the products will be pigmented. Pro tip from Ludovic: if you are having issues with Shu Uemura’s eyeshadow, try applying the UV base on the lid to bring out the pigments from the eyeshadows.

GlamGlow Super Mud Review

This week started out with a GlamGlow Super Mud review post since I’ve been holding in back last week! I was going to post it on the weekend, but I was invited to join GlamGlow Power Mud product launch, so I decided to compile everything for today’s post. Glam Glow Mud Mask

Impression and Verdict

So, I’ve only tried this mask once as an overall mask, and once as a spot treatment. Both times, I loved it! The mask has a minty smell to it, it doesn’t really give much sensation when you apply it all over your face. I applied my mask using a clean foundation brush, you can use your finger if you want.

The mask is of a dark grey color when it’s wet (you can see it on the side of my nose), and when it dries, it hardens and turns into a light grey color. If you notice my nose area, you’ll see there’s a few spots, that’s all oil. Yep, I’ve oily nose, and those oil started to secrete onto my skin when the mask was drying out. The oil was absorbed by the mask.

Glam Glow Super Mud

After leaving the mask on my skin for 10-minute, I went to wash my face, then continued with my normal skincare routine. My face felt fresh, a little bit tight, but my skin looks a bit brighter than before. My sis even commented how good my skin looks the day AFTER, even though she didn’t know I’ve tried the mask. She said my skin looks smoother than before. So, YAY!

I think the biggest difference before and after the mask is my pores. It doesn’t feel clogged anymore. I felt cleaner, fresher, and definitely feel my skin looks brighter. I have yet to notice any big difference in my skin yet, but that’s probably I’ve only tried this product once. When doing the spot treatment, I left the mask on my zits and leave it overnight. The next morning I noticed the swelling has reduced.

I definitely would buy this mask again, and probably would try their other masks! This mask is great for weekly treatment. The price is a bit steep though. For a jar (1.7 oz) it costs IDR 780K in Sephora Jakarta, and CAD$76 (before tax) in Canada. It’s a luxury item, not a must have.

If you live in Indonesia, you can grab the GlamGlow mud masks at Sephora Indonesia or Glam Glow Studio both located in Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta. If you do go to the Glam Glow Studio, you can ask them to let you try the mask first!

Glam Glow Super Mud

So, AFTER I bought the mask, I was invited to join Glam Glow PowerMUD product launch event as a Clozette Ambassador. Curious what a Clozette Ambassador is? Check out my Clozette Indonesia post!

Anyways, so on Saturday I went to the product launch event along with fellow Clozette Ambassadors and bloggers. There, we were given a chance to try out the PowerMud mask. I didn’t give it a try since I was in a rush for another appointment, but I did take a lot of photos with the other bloggers! So, please do go over to my Instagram to check them out!

Glam Glow Power Mud

The POWERMUD mask is a mask I wished I had bought earlier! I wished this mask was there when I bought the SuperMud. Nothing wrong with the SuperMud, but the PowerMud is infused with cleansing oil. This mud mask is meant to be used after you remove your makeup. It also contained exfoliators and astringents which help to deep clean your skin! I do love the SuperMud, but I feel like the SuperMud would be an excellent mask to deep cleanse the skin weekly to remove makeup build up.

I did open up the tester jar for the PowerMud and it smells amazing! Smells like apples or pears, can’t really quite put my finger on the smell, but smells so good! It also has bits of scrubs which will help to exfoliate your skin. I received 5 sample size PowerMud, and can’t wait to give it a try!

Glam Glow Power Mud

Again, don’t forget to sign up at Clozette Indonesia, and if you become Clozette Ambassadors, you might just see us on the next event! Can’t wait to see everyone again!

Grand Opening of Kiehl’s Indonesia

I had the pleasure of attending Kiehl’s Indonesia third store grand opening in Emporium Pluit, Jakarta, on Saturday! I’m sure most of you already know and heard about Kiehl’s before, right? Kiehl’s is a natural skincare company from the States, started out as a pharmacy, and now it has hundreds of stores worldwide!

Anyways, like I said, I was invited to Kiehl’s grand opening and I enjoyed the event a lot! It was a lot of fun, and I’d like to say a big thank-you to Kiehl’s Indonesia for inviting me!

WARNING: LOTS OF PHOTOS!

Kiehl's Indonesia

Kiehl's Emporium Pluit

Kiehl’s Emporium is located on the Ground Floor at Emporium Pluit Mall. It is situated nearby Jco, Bodyshop, & L’occitane, if you want to find it.The store is like the other Kiehl’s store, staying true to its old vintage pharmacy look. Actually the store has been opened for a few months, but their grand opening was just yesterday.

Below is Ms. Regina (Kiehl’s Brand Manager) and Mrs. Dian (Kiehl’s Retail Manager) having the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open their store! The atmosphere was amazing, there were dancers showing off their moves during the event.

Kiehl's Jakarta

Anyhow, if you feel intimidated by all the products, and too confused to figure out which one is for you, do ask for help since they give out free consultation. The Kiehl’s staff would be able to suggest and recommend products that are best for your skin/hair condition. I actually am having some issues with my scalp, and I was recommended to use the Amino Acid shampoo. I might go back there tomorrow to grab some shampoo, as well as perfumes.

Their perfumes smell so amazing, not to mention in such cute glass bottles! Love iiiit! I love the packaging, it has that old apothecary feel to it! It’s simple and gorgeous. I’m such a sucker for packaging!

Kiehl's Indonesia

Kiehl's Emporium Pluit

I’m not sure if you guys remember, but a few years a go Kiehl’s Indonesia sent me samples of their products. Back before then, I was actually introduced to Kiehl’s by one of my makeup instructors. She taught me to use the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer to prep my clients and models’ faces since it contains no perfume, and great to be used on both women and men!

You know how the men in your life (father, husband, son, fiancee, bf etc) might need some new skincare products, but they either can’t be bothered with it or unsure which products to use? I’d suggest for you to bring it to Kiehl’s right away since they are one of the few brands that actually carry a LARGE selection of skincare FOR MEN!

Kiehl's Indonesia

Like I’ve said above, the event was really fun and enjoyable. There were cotton candy machine, popcorn, drinks, snacks, cupcakes, dancers and singer! What a performance! Kiehl’s Indonesia sure know how to rock it! I couldn’t resist those cotton candies! So fluffy and pretty!

Besides all the performances, there were also a selfie contest, as well as spin the wheel. I actually didn’t partake in any of  the competition because I was distracted by my fellow bloggers! I haven’t seen some of them in the longest time and we had a lot to catch up. It was really awesome to see all the bloggers. Not to mention, I get to meet the new ones too! So glad I get to meet and make new friends!

Shu Uemura Brave Beauty Competition

Hello everyone!!! Sorry I haven’t been updating my blog this week. I was busy since I entered Shu Uemura Brave Beauty Competition. So, if you haven’t been following me on Instagram (you should, btw..what are you waiting for? Go check out my Instagram to get the latest update!), I’d just do a quick recap of what happened. Last month, I was browsing on Instagram, and saw Shu Uemura Indonesia was organizing a makeup competition. I actually didn’t want to join for many reasons, but first and foremost because I’ve a case of stage fright. N, my sister, and Franky (fellow blogger) kept encouraging me to do it, since I’ve nothing to lose anyways. This was my first makeup competition!

So, I submitted my face chart, portfolio and went on my merry ways. I actually didn’t even remember I entered the competition. Couple days after Eid, I received an email and a call notifying that I was one of the top 10 finalists for Shu Uemura Brave Beauty competition. Fast forward couple days later, I had to attend a briefing for the competition (Monday, Aug. 11), and the competition itself was on the following day (Tuesday, Aug. 12). The other 9 finalists were nice and friendly. They’ve entered makeup competition prior to this one. So, really, I was the only one with no prior experience. Oh well, there’s always a first time for everything right?!

Shu Uemura Brave Beauty top 10 finalists

Makeup station at backstage

Photo above is my makeup station back stage. We were given 2.5hr to do the models’ complexion (skincare, base, foundation), hair, nails, and wardrobe. Nails were provided by Feliz Nail Art, and wardrobe was provided by Tex Saverio. My model is Juanita Haryadi and she’s amazing!

For the competition, we are not allowed to bring our own makeup products, except for our makeup brushes and lashes. All makeup and skincare products are given by Shu Uemura. So this competition was interesting since I don’t actually owned any Shu Uemura eyeshadows. I entered this competition without having any knowledge on how the eyeshadows going to blend and such. On the briefing day, we were given times to know the products and play with the colors. However, swatching and looking at colors are quite different from actually using it on the eyelid. Not to mention, there was no eyeshadow primer at all from Shu. That was quite a concern amongst the finalists.

Shu Uemura Brave Beauty top 10 finalists

I, personally, was happy to actually join the competition. I am not a competitive person to begin with, and as I’ve mentioned before I’ve a case of a stage fright. I was like super nervous about this competition. I’ve never entered a competition before, so this was my first experience. I’m glad I did it because I managed to meet amazing makeup artists, and became friends with them. They are a bunch of great people, and we talked, shared and laughed together. We had tons of fun, and no one was mean to anyone. It was wonderful!

Also, we get to meet the legendary Kakuyasu Uchiide (Shu Uemura International Artistic Director), as well as internationally acclaimed Fashion designer Tex Saverio. Why is Tex Saverio there? That’s because Tex Saverio collaborates with Shu Uemura! 2 legendary people, and I was in between! Mr. Uchiide was like “oh come, you should stand in the middle”..OMG I ALMOST DIED!

I’ve met Rae Morris, now I’ve met Kakuyasu Uchiide! Dreams do come true! Master makeup artists! They are so friendly, humble, down-to-earth, and passionate about their work.

Mr. Uchiide’s interpretation of Brave Beauty on the models

So, we were given 30 minutes ONLY to finish up our eye, lips and cheeks makeup. I barely had enough time to complete the look. My hands were shaking throughout the entire time. I think at one point I wasn’t even sure what I was doing. I was too nervous! Stage fright I tell ya! Anyways, 30 minutes was up and that was it!

The winners were announced – Stephanie won 2nd place (best makeup show), and Mirtha won 1st place (grand prize). I didn’t feel much disappointment. I thought they deserved to win since their makeup results were quite elaborate. I knew I wasn’t going to win because I think I have a different interpretation of what Brave Beauty was.

Anyways! I was very happy I entered this competition. I’ve made new friends, I gained experience, and I’ve definitely learn to manage my stage fright. I’ve met great people, and for me it was more than enough! I didn’t even expect to be in the top 10, so that in itself was already quite amazing!

So, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who have cheered and supported me throughout the whole time!

IMATS Toronto 2013

Again, this year, I managed to show up for IMATS in Toronto. It was held in the Metro Convention Center. I attended the event on Saturday only. This year IMATS was definitely more packed and busy than last year. Please check my post on IMATS Toronto 2012 if you want to see my last year event coverage.

I wasn’t expecting anything from the IMATS. I actually went there without any intention of buying anything. I just wanted to see if they have good deals on certain products.

IMATS Toronto

Anyways, it was a makeup trade show, so there was a lot of brands that were present to sell their products. I think MUFE had one of the best booths there. The body paintings done by MUFE makeup artists were amazing! They have quite a great deal too: 50% off makeup brushes, certain deals on a set of foundation/concealers/primers/powder/blush etc. However, there was a HUGE line up for the MUFE booth, and I just couldn’t bring myself to line up for hours…ok may be not hours, but you get my point…

IMATS Toronto

There were several body painters in the show for their own booths, one of which was the makeup artist from Blur booth. Below, you can see the model from Blur. That was one of the most amazing body paintings I’ve ever seen.

So, I walked around the whole exhibition hall, and bought some makeup brushes from Crown Brush. It was such an awesome deal! Some of the brushes were only $4, others were $7.50. Pretty great, no?!

Besides Crown Brush, I also bought 8 nail polishes: 6 OPI for $30 and 2 Essie for $3.50/each. You probably would have seen the picture of the brushes and nail polishes if you followed me on Twitter or Instagram.

Besides the shopping, a very amazing event took place! Ok, so N was sitting down while I was shopping around looking at all the different booths (kudos to IMATS for providing chairs all around the hall for people to take a short rest).  While I was all skipping down the aisle getting my brushes, N was asked by a lady if she can sit beside him. He said yes, and took a glimpse at her name tag. Guess who??? RAE MORRIS! (the makeup artist, not the singer)

So, N immediately send me a message “you’ll never believe who sat beside me? where are you? come dowwn! it’s Rae Morris!”

Unfortunately, when I went to his seat, she already left to do some judging for the competition. So, N and I decided to stalk her..hahahahaha…Anyways, we managed to catch her after the competition, and we managed to chat and take a picture with the world famous Rae Morris! She was so nice and kind!

Below is pictures of us with Rae Morris. Yep, that’s my N right there! 😀

Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Workshop Event

So many events lately! Not that I’m complaining, but I’m really sorry for the lack of tutorial posts, and again soooo sorry if there’s too many “event” posts. It’s just pure coincidence that all the events were very close to each other this week. Anyways, today’s post is about MUFE Pro Finish Workshop event. I do have to say that MUFE Indonesia PR Staff was one of the best team that I’ve met so far. They are extremely kind, and friendly, so helpful and I really had a good time with them.

This MUFE Pro Finish workshop event was an introduction to their new product, which is (duh!) MUFE Pro Finish. This product was released to the public on September 7, 2013 in Indonesia. There’s only 17 shades in this range for Indonesia. There’s actually 25, but only 17 is available in Indonesia. I think this is one of the best brand for foundation since there’s a huge range of colors, besides MAC. This product will cost IDR. 430,000.

MUFE Academy IndonesiaMorris introduced MUFE Pro Finish

Just to let you know, I’ve actually already owned this product (my shade is 118). I bought it in Canada beginning of the year and have been using it. Let me just give you a brief introduction about MUFE Pro Finish. This product is a compact powder. What’s special about it is the fact that it can be used both DRY and Wet.

However, a word of warning, if you do apply this wet, you might find that the shade goes darker when applied to the skin. I’m not too sure why, but this is what I find. They also said, if you apply this wet, you get a sheer finish. I find this otherwise. I think applying it dry gives a more sheer finish.

I don’t like using this product wet. I, much prefer, using it dry to set my liquid/cream foundation. If you apply this dry with a buffing brush, you can get a good medium coverage. You, do, need to set it with a setting spray to avoid looking cakey or powdery.

It’s so great how, after you apply this wet, the powder will just dry and return to its normal powder state. If you’re like and have tried to wet MAC compact powder or ANY compact powders, you’ll find that there’s this weird coating, and had to scrape the coating off first before you can apply the powder underneath. With MUFE Pro Finish, you don’t have to do that! No coating!

MUFE Indonesia

Anyhow, let’s get back to the event. I felt like I’ve just done a short review about the product…lol…So, the event started out with a little makeup demo by Morris, a MUFE Makeup Artist. Then we were asked to try the products on our own face. Obviously, if you followed me on twitter/instagram, you’d have seen my makeup in the morning – bare face, strong brows, mascara and bold lips. However, since I wanted to be a good sport, I removed my makeup and stripped it down using MUFE Gentle Milk (picture above). Everyone was provided with a little table and a few products, as well as brushes on the table. We pretty much shared everything, not the most hygienic thing to do, but at least I already wore my mascara and I sharpened all the lip liners. The brushes were clean, so that was great.

Below on the left is my face with nothing on, but mascara. On the right, I’ve applied MUFE Pro Finish (dry) using foundation brush, filled my brows using MUFE brow pencil, contour slightly, a little bit of blush and added lip-liner to fill my lips. As you can see, the result from MUFE Pro Finish is pretty natural. It knocks out the redness and it covers my pores pretty well. Very sheer and natural. It also helps when my skin has been behaving well lately. However, you can see my dark under eyes (those late night sleeps are taking its toll..hahahaha). I didn’t apply any concealer.MUFE Pro Finish 118

Before and After MUFE Pro Finish

After I did my own makeup, Franky (from Rebzone) and I did Lucia’s makeup. Lucia is actually a friend of mine who tagged along today. So, again, thanks MUFE for allowing her to join us. It was fun, she enjoyed it a lot and she actually ended up buying that pink lip-liner on her lips!  Isn’t she gorgeous? 😉

So, after I did Lucia’s makeup, I wanted to go back to my bold lips since my face is quite bare. So, I applied MUFE Aqua Lip Liner in 11C and filled it in my lips. I, then, applied my Revlon Black Cherry on top of it. The result is the photo below! Super awesomely dark! Perfect for Fall/Winter makeup! I’m starting to love dark lips now.

Below is a picture of me with Maria. The pretty lady is a MUFE Intern, and guess what?! She is Indonesian, but her background is a Pakistani. She’s so friendly, and we couldn’t stop talking the whole time!

Of course the event won’t be completed without a great pictures of us! By this time almost everyone was gone, so it was just the 5 of us and the Staff.  Thanks MUFE Indonesia for inviting us! Thank you for being such a great host!

P.S.: FYI, I was not forced or felt compelled to post every events I go to. I think it was nice that I was invited to all these different events, and I just wanted to share with you guys what I learnt and did during the event. To be honest, no one told me I’ve to do an event coverage or anything. I just wanted to share my good experience, and hopefully you guys can learn something from this post as well (i.e. the products).
